Bear was a band based in Sheffield, England that existed between 1993 and 2002, with various line-ups the only constant of which was singer-songwriter-guitarist Chris Trout. They released three CD albums, two CD EPs, one 7” single and two split 7”s.

Some bits of these are compiled here, with a sparkly new digital remastering.

Most comeback albums are either pale replicas of the past or bad imitations of current trends. Soft Bonds surprises and excels in that it makes previous Insides efforts feel like a lead up to this release. Kirsty's vocals are already superb and a given, it is the beautifully restrained and eclectic backing tracks that elevate this release and don't mire it in any time period. Richard Grant
